Fordham Plants Department – General Assistant​

Main Duties:

• Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service, assisting shoppers with plant selection, care advice, and gardening queries.
• Ensure the health and wellbeing of plants, including watering, feeding, pruning, and pest control.
• Maintain high presentation standards, creating attractive displays for both indoor and outdoor plants.
• Assist with stock management, including unloading deliveries, pricing products, and restocking displays.
• Monitor plant quality, removing or treating any unhealthy stock as needed.
• Work alongside the wider team to support seasonal promotions and special displays.
• Keep the plant area clean, safe, and well-organised for customers and colleagues.
• Follow health and safety guidelines, including safe handling of chemicals and tools.

Requirements of the Role:

• Knowledge and passion for plants and horticulture (formal qualifications are a bonus but not essential).
• Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform tasks that involve heavy lifting.
• Strong communication skills, with a friendly and helpful approach.
• A team player with good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn and develop plant knowledge.
