Job description

The Café Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations in the Café, ensuring an exceptional customer experience from arrival to departure.

This role includes managing colleagues, handling customer concerns, and working closely with the Café Manager to ensure smooth operations. The Café Supervisor supports the Café Manager in setting the tone for the café’s ambiance and service standards, ensuring that customers feel welcomed, valued, and well taken care of.

  • Main Duties:
  • Oversee all front-of-house activities, ensuring high standards of customer service, cleanliness, and hospitality.
  • Manage, train, and motivate front-of-house colleagues, ensuring a team-oriented environment.
  • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and special requests, resolving any issues to ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Maintain inventory and stock levels for front-of-house supplies, including menus, napkins, and condiments.
  • Collaborate with kitchen colleagues to ensure timely and accurate food delivery and assist with any operational needs.
  • Monitor and manage colleague performance, provide regular feedback, and ensure adherence to service standards.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with scheduling and managing colleague shifts, optimising service coverage during peak hours.
  • Work closely with the Café manager to implement promotional activities, special events, and new menu items.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Proven experience as a Café Supervisor or in a similar leadership role within the hospitality industry.
  • A minimum of level 2 in Food Safety.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills to handle customer complaints effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of café operations, including service techniques, food safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanour under pressure.

Rates displayed are for 21+, competitive rates for 18–20 year-olds.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £13-£13.50 per hour 

Experience: Hospitality management: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification: Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (preferred)

Work Location: In person – Scotsdales Horningsea (1 High Street, Cambridge CB25 9JG

  • Every weekend
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
